Practicing one’s faith in the late 19th century in Harford County was a difficult task. Merely getting to a church was a challenge. It was good news for the Fallston community when Father Ebenezer Maynadier, the pastor of St. John's in Hydes and a native of Harford County, purchased land to build a church in November 1886. In March 1887, the first Mass was said for the mission parish of St. Mark at Moore Brothers Hall in "downtown" Fallston. After Mass, a meeting was held to discuss plans to build the new church. The cornerstone for the church was laid on November 1887 and the new church was completed in 1889. St. Mark was officially dedicated in May 1892. In June 1968, the parish mission of St. Mark separated from the mother parish of St. John's Hydes to stand on its own. It was no longer recognized as a mission church but gained status as a parish.
By the early 1980s, it was becoming obvious a larger worship site was needed. After much debate, the decision was made to build a new church where the existing church was located. Experienced artisans from Europe took the church apart board by board and reassembled it to its exact appearance on a site about five miles away to be used for Byzantine Catholic Community worship. Several historical items were saved from the old church and are still in use today on St. Mark’s campus, including the bell from the bell tower and the beautiful stained glass of the Blessed Mother that is the focal point of the Chapel. Groundbreaking for the new church began in April of 1988 and the official dedication of the current church took place on September 8, 1990.
